Nishi Honganji is a normal Japanese temple located in west-central Sapporo. What makes Nishi Honganji so wonderful are two things.
Sometimes the temple gets some DJs together and raves are held in this temple.
Second, on new years eve people are allowed to line up and pound the big bell to ring in the new year. Coming here every new year was a tradition for me when I lived in Sapporo.
The Japanese characters for Nishihonganji are “西本願寺”.
